The Jacob McKinney Family!

Welcome to the Jacob McKinney Family website!

Hi! I'm Letitia, Earl's daughter! If you remember from the 34th Jacob McKinney Family Reunion this past weekend (August 12-15, 2005), my dad is Earl Duckett, the son of Ethel McKinney Edwards Duckett and London Duckett. My mom is Dora Duckett, also originally from Greenville, South Carolina.

I was thrilled beyond belief to meet some of my cousins for the first time, and to become reaquainted with others. I wish we all lived closer to each other! How about we all pitch in to buy a tropical island, and we all move there? Hahaha! Just kidding, but not a bad thought!

Establishing this web site, (which is technically a "free" blog), is a project of mine, that I am passionate about, so that we all can get to know our relatives better, understand the genealogy, and possibly learn a thing or two! ;-)

I am VERY interested in getting our children, teens and young adults involved in the family reunions. Without the activity of our young people, in the future, we will not have a family reunion! One way I feel we can boost their own self motivation to become involved, is to have them learn to connect names with faces, and have them understand just how they are related to the people they see at the reunions by learning the genealogy.

We all could become proactive in keeping our records up to date by notifying our family historians in each state (and myself via this website) by updating our genealogy with the names and dates of marriages, births, and deaths.

On the sides of this page, I plan on posting links to other sites that may be of some interest to you. If you know of interesting sites related to genealogy, let me know. Anyone can post to this site, so feel free to post as a blogger, or as an anonymous person. If you sign in as anonymous ( to avoid the login process) just please sign your real name to your post. But whatever you do, PLEASE POST! We need your interaction to make this site interesting! Thanks!

I would love to pursue the other McKinneys...you know, the relatives of the siblings of Jacob McKinney (Frank, Zion, Wade, Henry, Robert, Alexander, and Jane or June McKinney). Jacob and his siblings were the children of Ammy (Darius) and Anthony McKinney. Anyone have any idea of where to start? Does anyone know the name of the white slave holder of whom the name McKinney originated?

By the way....does anyone in the family happen to know if we are related through any of Jacob McKinney's siblings to Cynthia Ann McKinney, Georgia's first African-American Congresswoman, and the only woman serving in the state's congressional delegation? Cynthia is the daughter of veteran Georgia State Representative Billy McKinney and Leola McKinney, a nurse of forty years at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Cynthia McKinney is the mother of a sixteen-year-old son, Coy McKinney.... I was just curious!

We've got alot of work in front of us, to discover our roots here in the United States; all of our McKinney relatives living and deceased. We owe this leagcy to ourselves and to our children. It's bad enough we don't know for sure which country our african ancestors originally came from. Do you ever wonder if your brown skin is a result of Ghanian or Nigerian ancestry? I do, but maybe I think too much! ;-)
